Summary

While traditional fruit and vegetable production will continue to expand throughout Northern Australia, there is unmet demand for consistent supply and further knowledge of native plant species.

Native food is currently grown in small amounts, but production is difficult and prone to failure. For overall production to expand, the industry needs to improve production systems, skills, knowledge and provide reliable plant material.

This project aimed to connect new and old knowledge to research how two motivated indigenous enterprises can foster and demonstrate sustainable horticulture production within an indigenous business model.

Unfortunately, due to a number of challenges, this project was not completed.
