First Nations governance, traditional knowledge, and leadership take centre stage at the inaugural Australian Sea Country Conference in Darwin.

The inaugural Australian Sea Country Conference concluded successfully in Darwin, marking a pivotal moment for First Nations leadership in marine governance. Held on Larrakia Country at the Darwin Convention Centre on 25-26 September, the event was hosted by the Aboriginal Sea Company.

The conference brought together 275 delegates from across Australia, along with international participants from New Zealand and Canada. Attendees engaged in dynamic discussions, a wide variety of breakout sessions, and interactive panels, all led by a diverse range of industry leaders. The event was designed to ignite innovation and rethink current practices in sea country management and governance.

The enthusiasm in the room reflected a shared commitment to shaping a better future. This was not just a conference but a launching pad for real change.
